As your doulas, we will:
- Share our knowledge of birth and help you prepare for the birth of your choice.
- Suggest and loan you books, videos and DVDs from our library.
- Provide information and suggestions during your pregnancy to help address both your hopes and any concerns.
- Accompany you in labor, providing reassurance and perspective; making suggestions for labor to progress; and helping with relaxation, massage, positioning and other comfort measures.
- Work closely with your husband or partner (if you have one)—a good doula facilitates involvement.
- Help you understand your options, both before labor begins and during the birthing process.
- Take photos during and/or after your birth, and provide a written synopsis of your birth story from our perspective, if desired.
Our time together will include:
- Two or three prenatal visits to discuss your options, plans and hopes for the birth. We can assist you with your birth plan, address concerns, and discuss common practices and procedures you may encounter during labor and birth.
- Phone and e-mail support.
- One of us in attendance at your birth, which can include laboring with you at home if desired. We typically stay until 1-2 hours after your baby is born.
- At least one post-partum visit to celebrate your baby, discuss the birth, offer breastfeeding support and talk about any post-partum challenges. We have many resources to help new moms.
We charge $500. Cost should never be an obstacle for moms who want a doula, so we are willing to adjust our fee on a sliding scale for those who need it. |
